  1. WAR AND PEACE

Two contradicting words, dictates the future of this world. Filled with love of freedom and fear of death. History repeats itself. Like in the past, freedom is always associated with war and peace. When Philippines was once conquered by the Spaniards, in order to obtain freedom we must first go thru war and kill thousands of people and obtain peace. Do we have to repeat it all over again? Why do we need to do such foolish things? For the pride of our nation? Is it more important than the safety of our lives?
WAR is often associated with DEATH. A foolish way to do, especially in times of desperation and confusion. In times of nuisance, war is not the answer to the problem. It is better off to talk about it with full understanding than talk about it using death sacrifices. War is not always the answer to your problem.
PEACE, what most people desires. Said to be the right thing to do. But there is nothing permanent in this world. Not peace, not life, not anything. People make war not peace. Currently in Mindanao, the MILF and the government are fighting in order to obtain peace. But will you be in peace when you see all the dead people? Will you be in peace when reminisce the sounds of the guns firing? The voice of people screaming for their lives on the top of their voices? I think not. It just makes people feel more uncomfortable and suffer traumas?
WAR AND PEACE, two different words. Things that you can never perfect. You can never tell if it is good or not. But one thing is true, in order to obtain an environment that can make us all feel comfortable, “MAKE LOVE NOT WAR”.

  2. When Love and Hate Collide
    Annicalou Cruz Tañaquin
    III- Ernest Rutherford

“There's nothing in this world so sweet as love. And next to love the sweetest thing is hate.”
    -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Love and hate, two things you can never mess around with, for these two can make your world startle. Many people do not understand the connection between them because there is hardly any visible similarity. Though, there are countless differences that we can relate, maybe because we often take those two as contradicting entities.

We never realized that love and hate are parallel, but they are. These two starts with one thing, your feelings toward somebody, you can not love or hate people just because of nothing. You need at least one factor that will attract or repel you. One good example is admiration, you develop this seeing the fact that you are captivated by his characteristics, attitude or for the simplest thing- he is just so crush-able. Same thing with detest, you do not despise anyone without any sanity, perhaps it is triggered by his face, manners or maybe he has done something wrong to you that made him hate-able. In addition to that, both convey strong emotions, and sometimes, they can be incontrollable.

In contrast, even if both deliver mighty sentiments. They execute them in an exactly different way. One can build a home and the other can break one. One can kill you of infatuation and the other of too much grudge. One can cause heart attack due to being big-hearted while the other due to being broken-hearted. In addition to that, these two are developed differently. Love is made with pure affection, a joyful feeling and is a romantic desire that can take you to the heavens, although the other is made with absolute animosity, a dreadful notion that can lead you to crushing someone with your very own fingers. Moreover, these two bring along different outcomes to our lives. Love teaches us acceptance when hate teaches pride. Love creates a better person out of you when hate makes you miserable. There are really a lot of factors to admit when it comes to the difference between two exact opposites.

To sum it all up, both love and hate have many similarities and differences between them. Both makes us feel extreme feelings that make our hearts burst, but they have their own way of doing it. Another thing is even if I’m experiencing it right now, I’m still puzzled to the fact that you can hate someone while still loving him. Two strong emotions in one, you’ll never know which one to follow. They are instructing you to do things against half of yourself. It feels awkward, but despite all of that, I still believe that these two controls everything, just like yin and yang. They maintain balance in our world, without them life would be uninspired. Love and hate creates a magical atmosphere that keeps us alive, now it’s your turn to comprehend and learn how to deal with them. ñ_ñ

  3. LOVE loves HATE, HATE hates LOVE

Love and hate, one of the common things between people. But, have you ever wondered, when you love someone, you tend to fear them and when you hate someone, you get close for all the wrong reasons. Two words, contradicting, but is always associated with one another.

Love, it's the sensational feeling that makes your heart beat so fast, makes you forget to breathe, but you seem to like how it is. It is the feeling that makes your whole body ticklish, your tummy is like filled with butterflies. Have you ever had that feeling? I get the butterflies when I'm tossed in the air when I'm in cheering practice. Back to love, it bonds two people together, it's like a red string that binds the couples together forever. But, when that bond is broken, when that red string is cut, HATRED takes the stage.

"I hate you!!" HATE, HATE, HATE... a very strong feeling usually caused by a broken heart, a fallen love, anger, jealousy. Have you ever felt hate for a particular person that sometimes you just wanna strangle that person to death, like you wanna curse that someone?!? I know I have, I know you did too. Nobody can run away from the pain. Others keep the hurt all to themselves, and when your heart is full it all comes to hate anyway. It is the very opposite of love, you don't wanna feel that kind of intensity, although some hatred is petty, not really that big of a deal... anyway, the point is, it's not something you wanna go through, but sometimes you just have to.

To end this thing, when you love, there is a tendency that you will feel hate and when you hate, you will kinda develop a little something. As a saying goes " the more you hate, the more you love" and vice versa. Is that even true? I'm not sure, since I haven't really experienced those kinds of stuff. It is always up to that person, YOU, if you will believe my words. You might say that I'm inexperienced and not fitting of writing something about it, but I believe in my words. LOVE and HATE. Beautiful, confusing, interesting, contradicting, a topic which has been a part of us, everybody.

  4. Nuclear Fusion vs. Nuclear Fission

Nuclear has been useful to u since we are now suffering from depleting of fossil fuels. This type of energy can be created through nuclear fission and nuclear fusion. Nuclear fission is the splitting of a atom into two or more parts, releasing huge amounts of energy. The release of energy can be controlled for generating electricity. Nuclear fusion involves hydrogen atoms. In the long run, nuclear fusion has greater potential to produce energy than fission.

Cost and availability of fuel is a factor when dealing with nuclear power. Fission requires an element that can be easily broken down into smaller parts, such as uranium or plutonium while fusion, uses isotopes of hydrogen atoms, specifically deuterium and tritium that can be obtained from water. Uranium ores occur naturally in many parts of the world but must go through a costly purification process before used as fuel. Uranium-235 is a non-renewable resource that will eventually run out, much like the fossil fuels. The abundance of deuterium and lithium provide a virtually unlimited supply of fuel for nuclear fusion. Therefore, nuclear fusion seems to be the better choice.

Second, the potential amount of energy that can be produced by fusion is greater than the fission. Initially, there are some disadvantages to fusion. The time and money required to develop technology needed to initiate, contain, and sustain a profitable fusion reaction is costly, but the development is still in its early stages and will continue to advance through the next century. Fission readily creates a chain reaction which must be slowed through use of a moderator to avoid core meltdown, while fusion can only be accomplished at temperatures similar to the centre of stars, about 100 million degrees Celsius. The components used in fusion exist in the form of plasma where atoms are divided into electrons and nuclei. All fusion devices developed have used much more energy than produced, but the latest designs have been able to generate an equal amount of energy to that required to sustain the reaction. Finally, fusion of a given mass of deuterium will be able to create over four times the energy produced through fission of an equal mass of uranium. It is just a matter of time and development before useful amounts of electricity can be produced through fusion.

Finally, the biggest concern people have about nuclear power is the production of radioactive waste among other hazards. The radioactive waste produced by fission remains highly radioactive for thousands of years. Fusion produces only low levels of short lived radiation, decaying almost completely within 100 years. Neither fission nor fusion reactors produce the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming and acid rain. A malfunction of the moderator in nuclear fission reactors almost assures a core meltdown. Fusion reactions, however, are so extremely difficult to sustain that if anything were to go wrong, the reaction would stop.

In conclusion, nuclear fusion has much more potential for long term use than the current fission reactors, even though in the short term it may cost a little more to develop. The small price to pay for development of fusion technology helps a lot for our planet.

  5. Love and Hate

What is the one emotion that has everyone mystified? What is the one emotion that has started as many wars as it has ended? What emotion has had more plays, songs, and stories written about it than anything else? Love, that one emotion that makes enemies into friends and friends into enemies. And what is that one emotion that makes you feel so angry at someone? To neglect him/ her and even do so many bad things to him/her, even though he/ she is your bestfriend or even your loved one. Hate, that one emotion that makes the world suffer. That one emotion that starts all things evil. Well, sometimes. Love, that one that sometimes nourishes hate. Two very different and contradicting words yet very connected with each other.

Love has many different meanings to different people. For a four-year-old, love is marrying her daddy when she grows up. For an elementary school kid, love is what he or she feels for his or her best friend, who also serves as a boyfriend or girlfriend. To a fifteen-year-old boy, love is what he should feel for his girlfriend of the moment; only because she says she loves him. But as we get older and wiser, love becomes more and more confusing. There is no true definition of what love is. Love is just merely a word in the English language but the real meaning behind it is something that cannot be expressed in words. The term love has a universal term and basically means someone or something that shows infatuation or affection to another person or object. The word love has different meaning in contexts and could be expressed in lesser or higher degrees depending on the person. The meaning of love could be different for every other person. Love is merely a word but it is the connection the two people or object makes of it. Love is something so powerful, that it is strong enough to take on any obstacles, including someone's life. If someone truly loves someone, they are willing to sacrifice their life for someone they love. That is true love when you are willing to give up your life so that your loved one can live on. The phrase, love makes the world go round is very true. It's is our driving force, for what ever reason it may be. We can only feel what that meaning is, and express it in ways only we can understand towards another.

Hate is a word that describes intense feelings of dislike. Some defines it as pain that is due to an external cause. For psychologists, hate is defined as a "deep, enduring, intense emotion expressing animosity, anger, and hostility towards a person, group, or object.” It can bring people into total destruction. It has the capability of starting a war. Best friends can be mortal enemies just by arguing and developing hate for each other. Husband and wife can separate just by developing hate for each other. Hate influences very much the emotional side of people and even their thinking. These particular examples are very similar scenes in today’s time. So, just like love, hate is also a very intense and powerful emotion that needs to be fully understood.

They say that love is the supreme good and that hate is the supreme evil. But as we read in books, good defeats evil, hate is defeated by love. For hate is not conquered by hate: hate is conquered by love. This is an eternal law. Just like Martin Luther King Jr. once said, love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend. And yet, capriciously, love may also be a source of hate. The defrauded love is jealous and dangerous. “The frustrated love turns itself easily in hate” – wrote Morin. Defrauded love is a cause of thousands of violent crimes. At another level, some sorts of religious and political love are equally a source of many crimes and hatred. In the Middle Ages, the love of God, nourished many religious persecutions, and much slaughter. Millions of men dyed in fratricidal wars, or at the Inquisition stake. But that's not just a past issue. On the contrary: it's a very present question. We should not forget: present day terrorism and many aggressive political movements – with all the love of projects and ideas they involve – are a tremendous illustration of how love can be a source of evil and hate. Yes. It is true... Love nourishes hate. It has done it in the past. It is doing it in the present.

  6. My parents once told me that high school life is the climax of my journey. In this stage you might meet you're trustful friends. You might experience things like sleeping in the class when your teacher discusses something, go home very late at night just to catch up with some things and you might even meet you're lover. It is fun. But being a MakSci student it is different, a lot more different from the ordinary high school students.

In ordinary high schools, they have all the time they want. They go to school for about 8 hours and have enough time to finish all their requirements. They don’t need to strive hard for a higher grade to maintain the quality of their school but they are encouraged to study well. In having the exams, they have more time to study and be prepared for it since they are not having classes the whole day. Most especially in having the National Achievement Test, it is really an advantage.

While in Makati Science High School, you must be there before 7:00 am or else you'll be late and absent from our first class. You'll be dismissed at 5:20 in the afternoon. There are some instances where in there would be three long examinations all in one day! Could you imagine how to study all of those subjects in just a short period of time? So you really need to exert effort to study very well because you're expected to maintain a high grade. Sometimes, these things make the students pressured especially for the first year students. But that doesn't end the life of MakSci students, some also cram their things just to submit it on time. But despite of all these things they are experiencing, they still find time to enjoy the day with their friends and special someone. The most restful day for them is when the stipend is released. Even if they experience problems, they still enjoy being a scholar student of Makati.

Being a MakSci student is a great privilege one can get. I learned a lot more things than just the lessons that were taught to us. I learned how to manage my time with family, friends, and studies. I learned the true essence of being a good student. And being a Maksci student is the bridge to success that I might get. I never regret that I graduated from this school because, here is were all my dreams lie.

  8. HEAVEN or HELL

People, especially Christians, believes that there is another life after you die. Your soul will leave your body and go either heaven or hell.

Heaven is believed to be a place of happiness, perfection and satisfaction. It's where everyone wants to stay after they die. Doing good deeds is a big help to be qualified in entering the garden of God, the heaven.

Hell, in the other hand, is believed to be the exact opposite of heaven. There, life will be full of pain, hatred and suffering. It is a place for bad people especially criminals. People will never want to experience living in the cave of fire, the hell.

This belief has a big effect on our daily lives. It depends on how you spend your stay on Earth. Do your best or do your worst? It's your choice. Heaven or hell?

  9. The Battle of My Thoughts

Identity crisis is not new to me. After all, I’m just one of those once in a while lost teenagers of the X generation. I attempted swapping personalities because of the fear not to fit others. Until the time that I had already tried everything I could be. After the entire personality test of my own, I got mixed up with who I really am or who i used to be. I had to spent countless hours thinking before I had realized that I am not only Ericka, that I had accidentally created a split personality.

Akira, the name of my split personality, is actually the inverse of my real name which is Ericka. Akira means evil. Akira is my exact opposite. She is someone dark and gloomy. She has a short temper and likes yelling. She gets annoyed in little matters and a total cynic. I am considered scary when I transform into Akira. I unintentionally hurt people around me because I turn numb and I care less on their feelings. Akira is a vengeful and emotional girl. She is obviously a fighter. She doesn’t know when to accept defeat.

Enough of Akira, Ericka, my real character, is said to be one lovable persona. I am wild and bubbly. Though I have a longer temper than Akira, I am just as noisy as her yells. I love saying my thoughts out loud! I believe in the epicurean philosophy-to live your life to the fullest because you will never know when it’ll end. Classmates like teasing me a lot because they have never seen this side of me to rebel and act so wrathful. Ericka is also a fighter, a fighter of justice that is. I was never hungry for vengeance for I love and have faith in God and I believe he is the only one who has the right to punish humans. Sometimes I get labeled insensitive for being so outrageously happy even though it is not already fitting the current situation. It’s kind of hard to explain… I was never the kind of girl who caresses others when they are down or this sweet girl who greets her girl friends with a peck on their cheeks. I am sometimes referred as a tom boy.

The two of my personalities are both loud, a fighter, a tom boy, kind of numb but actually believes in the morals and ethics. They just differ in the philosophies they believe in, the way they solve problems, their outlook in life, and the way they treat people. Let’s just not do the labeling! Don’t you know random is my middle name. Ericka or Akira, I am still me. One soul, one body, just two minds.

    An Enigmatic Clarification

For two years now, she’s been crushing on this boy. Today, he would finally find out about her big secret. She wondered… wondered what he would think, what he would do, and how he would react. He probable won’t like her back, but that won’t matter much to her. It was an infatuation, not a commitment of love. All she really cared about was to be free from the secret. Actually, if he told her bluntly that he didn’t like her, she would be glad. If he’d be frank, everything will be brutally clear but the big picture will be easier—less complicated. Perhaps euphoria would fill her if he felt the same, but a simple “no” would be the second best. She knows how to appreciate honesty: to hell with going around in circles for the sake of being polite. Beating around the bush has never birthed anything better than a mess. Also, the word “no” is like a green light for her to move on and find a new crush.

So she sucked in all the air her lungs could possible carry and strutted away. She was hopeful… hopeful she’ll get a clearer hold on things.

He didn’t expect this. It came as such a surprise. He never thought that she, of all the girls, liked him. Instantly, a flashback played back in his mind. It was his own experience in confessing… It was painful enough for him to confess (it was hard to muster so much courage) and it was another to be rejected and worse; be avoided. He wouldn’t dare do it. How could he be so heartless? How could he hurt someone so innocent? The old feelings of rejection crept up his spine like a tarantula. She wasn’t his type but… the look on her face… it had too much, hope. She actually looked pretty like that with her eyes wide with anticipation, her lower lip acting as her own pacifier, and her cheeks blushing profusely. But he had a different girl in mind.
He couldn’t forget the past. The way he silently vowed to himself. Heaven knows that he didn’t ever want to crush anyone the way he had been crushed. It was tragic when his beloved started to avoid him after the incident—he won’t be like her. If ever he was forced into a situation, he won’t lie, but right now he had to play the “friendly” card. No, he didn’t want to crush her, not anyone.
“Thank you,” he said with a slight bob of his head. “I’m so touched,” he told her grinning like a fool.

    * * *

For the next month, she didn’t know what to think. She never felt relief since that day. All she felt was confusion and anger towards the ambiguous state. Her excruciatingly vague state bit her cheeks numb of the tears passing by it some nights. She was tempted to direct all her negative emotions at him. She somehow felt he wasn’t interested but the back of her mind kept her in a breath of false hope. What was she supposed to do? Pretend like nothing happened? Pretend that she never told him? What’s up with, “I’m so touched”, right? Did she touch his ego and caused it to bloat? She was sidestepped and left in the dark to figure out the foreign signals on her own. She had to get a reaction from him—a reaction strong enough to end her woes.

He really didn’t care. She was just, after all, just another girl going gaga for him. Nothing new. He was nice to her though. Polite conversations, and friendly smiles and they passed the corridors just like how they did a month ago, when he hadn’t known yet.

A lot changed one day, when she had been fully determined to get a reaction. She told him a story about her and her former best friend who was in love with her. As she told the story, he thought she was in love with her best friend but turns out she wasn’t. He was deeply bothered. Did that mean that she still liked him a lot? Is she really serious about what she told him? Did he give her the wrong impression? Was she assuming that he liked her back? Thus, the boy started avoiding her, unsure of what to do.

    * * *

The girl finally got over him. She finally got the reaction she deserved… avoidance! That word couldn’t possibly be any sweeter! Now, a month had passed and she was happy and contented where she was. Free of restraint and free of her monogamous tendencies.

The boy realized, after missing out on her, the truth. He had once been blinded by another, but he was in love with her. But, it was all too late to change anything. Too pathetic to do anything… his chance had passed him by.

The minute she was over him, he had only started to get into her. They were opposites… they could have fit together like a puzzle, but the timing was all wrong.

  11. God's Gifts

"Dancers are the athletes of God" was quoted by Albert Einstein. "Singers are angels of God sent down to Earth" was quoted by Lisa Gottlieb. Who are better performers? One who dances gracefully? Or one who sings beautifully?

Dancing and singing are both ways to express your emotions. You dance to the rhythm of the music when you're happy. Or you hum a tune when you're thinking of happy thoughts or when you're inspired. We really don’t know, but for me singing and dancing are ways of exploring your inner self, learning your limitations and strength. Dancers and singers are called performers. The stage is their paradise where they can show what they are feeling inside. Children at a very young age are encouraged to start practicing their talent for them to develop.

Dancing is the creative way of expressing yourself through actions. Each gesture has different meaning. Singing, on the other hand, is more on words. Each word must be said carefully to emphasize the meaning you want the listener to realize.

There might be a big difference on the two. But as far as I know, if you can talk, then you can sing. If you can walk, then you can dance. It is up to each and every one of us how to develop and take good care of these gifts from God. Dancing and singing is for everybody.

  12. Democracy and Monarchy

Democracy and Monarchy are both form of governments. People have argued whether which of the 2 forms of government is better in helping the country prosper and flourish. The industrialization of a country doesn’t only depend on the citizens and leaders it could also depend on the type of government the country has.

Democracy is coined in the dictionary as a form of government in which the supreme power is held completely by the people under a free electoral system. Democracy is the most popular form of government. It is also the type of government needed to be a first-class country. In Democracy all members of the society has equal access to power. The society also enjoys universally recognized freedom and liberties. Democracy started from the Ancient Greece. The city-state Athens first practiced this kind of government. It is also called “the last form of government” and has considerably spread across the globe Democracy itself is divided into different forms each of them have different characteristics but all of them revolves around the same principle that the government is only for the people. Some forms of Democracy are as follows; Representative, Parliamentary Democracy, Liberal Democracy, Direct Democracy, Socialist Democracy, Iroquois Democracy, Sortition, Consensus Democracy, and Interactive Democracy. Representative Democracy involves the selection of government officials by the people being represented. The leaders are commonly selected by voting. Parliamentary Democracy is opposed to a ‘presidential rule’ by decree dictatorship. Liberal Democracy is a representative democracy in which the ability of representatives to exercise decision-making power is subject to the rule of law. It also emphasizes on the protection of the right and freedoms of individuals. Direct Democracy is a political system where citizens are involved in decision-making. Socialist Democracy has different views in democracy which are; Social democracy, Democratic socialism, Dictatorship of the proletariat. Iroquois Democracy had a form of participatory democracy and representative democracy. In Sortition the leaders are not chosen by voting but rather by a random process giving each citizen a fair chance of becoming a leader. Consensus Democracy aims to protect minority rights from domination by majority rule. Interactive Democracy utilizes information technology to involve voters in law making. Democracy is a form of government where citizens are united forming one powerful nation. Just like Aristotle said “If liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in Democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government in the utmost”

Monarchy is a form of government in where supreme power is given only to one individual who is the head of state, often for life. The monarch, the person who heads a monarchy usually have unlimited political power except in constitutional monarchies. It also practices hereditary rule except in elective monarchies where the monarch is chosen by means of elections. Most states only have a single monarch at any given time, although diarchy is sometimes possible in some countries. Monarchy is sometimes linked to religious aspects, where some monarchs claim to be given the right to rule by the will of God, they even claimed to have a special connection with God. Monarchs have various titles, including king or queen, duke, prince, emperor, and royal highness. Different succession of powers has been used in monarchy. Monarchies used to exist all around the world but in the recent century most monarchies have been abolished. Self-proclaimed monarchies have also happened like what Napoleon did he proclaimed himself Emperor of the French. Monarchy originated from the leadership of tribal chiefs. Monarchs undergo different ceremonies like coronation.

Democracy and Monarchy both flourished in their times. Both of them are proven to be effective in helping the country to flourish and prosper. Democracy could help the country become united while in Monarchy laws and constitutions are easily enforced. It is hard to pick which of the two is better. Some say that Democracy is better while some say that Monarchy is better, it is hard to know which one is correct. Both have made quotes against each other like this one “Democracy… while it lasts is bloodier than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhaust, and murder itself. There is never a democracy which did not commit suicide.” While the other side gave this quote “Monarchy degenerates into tyranny and into savage violence and chaos.”

It is better to have one than to have none. What about me? I got two. Is that too much or it is just enough? Which one is better; the one who always help me or the other one who always pick a fight with me? If both of them are about fall off the cliff and I can only save one who would I choose?
As the youngest child, my parents always support me. I always get what I want. And even if I am wrong, they still fight for me. These make my Ate Mae angry or should I say jealous. She is older than me for three years. She is my playmate ever since. I can say that the two of us are really close. She may hate because I am being spoiled by our parents but she is really friendly. She is an outspoken girl and no one can stop her from saying what she wants. She does what she wants to do. She does not mind what other people say. That is something that makes me idolize her. Once you get to know her, you will surely enjoy being with her.
They are not the same. This one is different. They may have some similarities but they are really different. My sister, Ate Cai, does not mind me being spoiled by our parents. She just say her opinion when it is too much. She is the one who help me in everything. Although she may say that she will not help me, she still ends up helping me. She is always my date. Every Saturday, the two of us go to the mall to buy stuffs. I really like her. There are times that I really hate her. That is when she say bad words. She is somehow use to it but that is only whenever she is angry. Like Ate Mae, she is also outspoken. She is a super outspoken girl. She says what she wants even though it will hurt other people. This is something I am disappointed about. But, who cares? That is her. I can not change that.
They are both special for me. Of course, who will not enjoy having two clowns in the house? That is a joke! I am really happy to have two sisters. They may be different from each other but being different is the best. And if both of them are about to fall off the cliff and I can only save one, I would choose to fall off the cliff with them. What is life without my two sisters?

    Comparison and contrast
    Of

    Wisdom and Knowledge

Have you experienced having lowest score in class? Maybe yes, maybe no. Have you asked yourself what’s wrong with me?
Maybe I need more knowledge or maybe I need more wisdom but what is the difference between the two?

Knowledge, this is why we go to school. To get more knowledge. It is more on teaching or learning something about a certain field of study while wisdom is like being wise; it is like using your common sense. Some people thinks that wisdom and knowledge is the same so some chose not to study, some chose to specialized and be better. This knowledge nor wisdom can’t go with you till death so why study? Why King Solomon did chose wisdom rather than knowledge? Does it mean that wisdom is better than knowledge?

For me, I think we need both wisdom and knowledge while we are living in this world with so many obstacles to pass through.
Just like Jesus said, “All things have its reason”. I also want to live with contentment with the help of both wisdom and knowledge. If you only have knowledge with no wisdom, you can’t do a very simple and common sense thing while if you only have wisdom with no knowledge, you can’t get a good and legal job for a peaceful and happy living life. So to those who are losing hope, just pray and God will help you all the way. ^^

    haha... XD

  15. Too Submissive…
    Too Aggressive…

Are we too submissive that we keep quiet in the face of terrifying deed? Are we too aggressive that we correct without charity and consideration?
    - Socrates B. Villegas
People can be too submissive or too aggressive. Whenever they are hurt by someone, they either correct that person immediately shouting almost all the bad words they know without realizing the fact that they have hurt even more of that person; or, just make “dedma” and slip away without paying attention to their feelings.
Submissiveness, according to the Webster’s American Dictionary, is a character trait possessed by people who are willing to give in to others. They tend to remain silent whenever they are hurt. They don’t even let out a whimper whenever they are hurt. They just accept things as they are whenever they are hurt. It is as if you can do anything to them but they won’t complain. They don’t show their feelings. They do not tell that they are hurt or even embarrassed. These people give up their opportunity to correct others. They, in the name of patience, fail to work on their responsibilities to lead others to become better persons.
On the other hand, too aggressive people are characterized as persons who are ready to start fight or quarrels. Whenever they are hurt or embarrassed in front of many people, they will not miss the opportunity to correct other people’s mistakes. They will readily tell you that you have hurt them in front of everybody. They correct people without charity. They criticize others but at the same time, not considering the feelings of others as long as they have said what they have wanted say.
But God wants us to be in the middle of being too submissive and too aggressive. If we are hurt, we should talk to them in private, and let him/her know that you are hurt and embarrassed. We are not perfect. We commit mistakes. We just have to do the right thing and stand for what’s ethical. So the next time we are hurt, let’s not just slip away from it or shout immediately, but rather stop, feel, think. Maybe we can help them change to a better being, and so do we to ourselves.

    Two Giants: USA and Russia

Russia and the United States of America are both competitive countries. In almost every aspect, the names of these countries are always in the rise. Two important aspects in our society which the two countries are ahead of the others are economy and arms and weaponry. For some reasons, the economy of the United States is undeniably ahead to that of Russia. But when it comes to arms, maybe they are the same.

Russia is the largest country in the world which covers about eight of the whole earth’s land area. Moscow is their country capital. Russians are approximately 142 million in population. This number is the 9th largest in the world. Russia also houses the greatest reserves of minerals in the world due to their large span of land. Russia established a worldwide power through the Soviet Union which was joined by many Asian and European countries. The said federation was the world’s first Socialist State. It is one of the five recognized nuclear weapons states and possesses the world's largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction.

While the United States of America, which is referred as U.S., America or United States is a Constitutional Federal Republic .USA is comprised by 50 states. It is in the North American continent. It is bordered by Canada in the north and by Mexico on the South. It is the third largest country and also third in terms of population. The country’s economy is the largest in the world and is threatened by the Asian power, Japan..

Economy is the basis to determine whether a country is in the go or its stability is not that good. USA is considered as the world’s largest economy. After the great depression has ended, finally, USA has recovered from a great loss. The high inflation rate finally lowered. The markets of USA have improved after decades. And with an effective leader and correct settlement of regulations, the United States achieved the fruitful economic success. In Russia, since the turn of the century, rising oil prices, increased foreign investment, higher domestic consumption and greater political stability have bolstered economic growth in Russia. Since Russia has large reserves of minerals, those mines become the major export of Russia. They explore and exploit their resources to increase the economic growth. Their well planned economic strategies have strengthened their stability. Their unemployment rate has gone down from 12% in 1999 to 6% in 2000. But by the year 2011 their economic growth is expected to drop by 3% due to oil crisis.

When it comes to Arms and Weaponry, both countries won’t let anyone to be ahead of them. Together with technological advances, both countries are improving and upgrading their military defense. This came into reality when they both developed the usage of Nuclear Weapons. The world first saw the destructive effect of nuclear arms when the Armed Forces of the USA dropped a nuclear bomb into the Japanese Cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, leaving behind a large number of deaths and a large cost of damage.

We can’t stop each of the countries eagerness to be ahead of each other. Both of them are globally competitive. So, it’s just natural for them to bring out the best on whatever they do.

  17. The Sixth Sense: Common Sense
    expository article
    Johannes Kristoff R. Vito
    III - Ernest Rutherford

Common sense is something that all people have. Though sometimes it is not used efficiently, everyone has it. Common sense is an important part of our lives. Without it, we cannot do daily tasks which need our logic and reasoning effectively.
If you did something wrong, people will say that you do not have common sense. Especially if the thing you went wrong is just a simple thing that even an infant could do it. Actually, people who say that you do not have common sense are wrong. Everyone has it. Although sometimes we forget to use it but still everyone has it. Sometimes we are just too bothered of our problem that is why we forget to use it. Nowadays, our mind is frequently clouded by our thoughts and dreams and, most importantly, problems. Our problems are the cause of our misuse of our common sense. High prices of goods, high tuition fees, low salaries, reasons that cause our mind to be clouded makes us do mistakes even for the smallest things. Common sense only functions well if we have a calm and peaceful mind. If our minds are full of trouble we cannot accomplish our tasks effectively and efficiently.
So the next time you do something, look before you leap. Think first if what you will do is right or wrong, so that you will not be the laughing stock of your friends anymore.

  18. Beauty or Brains
    Johannes Kristoff R. Vito
    III - Ernest Rutherford

“Inner beauty is better than beauty seen outside.” That is the philosophy of many people in this world. But which is really more important: beauty or brains?
When you hear the word beauty what comes first in your mind? When I hear the word beauty, the first thing that comes to my head is the physical appearance. Beauty is important because it is the basis of your impression to other people. It is also what you use in facing different kinds of people. Some people even say that even if you are the most intelligent person in the world but your physical appearance does not please the eyes of other people, no one will like you. Some people even use the physical appearance in choosing who to hire for a certain job. Some does not even care if you graduated with honors as long as you look presentable. With all these things we really could say that beauty is really important.
Brains, knowledge, wisdom, intellect, mind power, all these things are synonymous. They only mean one thing: the capability of the brain to do great things. I myself consider brain power more important than the physical appearance. It is because the brain could do more things than your looks. The brain is the center of your consciousness. If you use it effectively and efficiently, you could make yourself look presentable even if you are not blessed by good looks. If you have brains, you will never run out of job opportunities. Your brain is also important in doing daily tasks efficiently. So, our brain is really important in surviving every day.
Some say beauty, some say brains. But which is really more important? For me, I could only say that both beauty and brains has an important role in maintaining the balance of a person’s personality. That is why I have decided that a person should have at least one of these things. It is better if a person have both of these qualities even if it is not that great but at least that person should try to improve the thing that he lacks. How about you, which is better: beauty or brains?

  19. High School vs. College

You're going to college! It's exciting, but you're probably a little nervous about freshman year, right? You know how your high school teachers have been telling you that college is going to be much more difficult than high school? Well, they're right.

Scared? Part of the scary part is that you don't know what to expect academically. People keep telling you your school work is going to be tough, but you don't know exactly what that means. So how is college different than high school?

High School is mandatory and free. You need permission to participate in co-curricular activities. You can depend on your parents and teachers to remind you of your responsibilities and help you set priorities. Every day you proceed from one class directly to another. Most of your classes are arranged for you. They approach you if they believe you need help or tutoring. They remind you of your incomplete work and provide you with information you missed when you were absent. Teachers communicate knowledge and facts, sometimes drawing direct connections and leading you through the thinking process. Consistently good homework grades may help raise your overall grade when test grades are low. You may graduate as long as you have passed all required courses with a grade of D or higher.

Being a first-year student is fun! Unlike high school, where your first year is usually filled with anxiety and the occasional wrong-classroom mishap, colleges prepare first-year students with an orientation that builds a strong bond among class members. Many colleges offer additional early orientation programs (usually a camping trip or gathering hosted in a nearby city) to foster relationships before the school year even begins. It will make your college transition easier if you already have bonds with your classmates. Once orientation is over and the upper-class students are back on campus, you will find that they are excited to meet the first-year students, and you become very comfortable in the college setting very quickly. You will be faced with many moral and ethical decisions you have not previously had to face. You must balance your responsibilities and set priorities. You may graduate only if your average in classes meets the standard for your major. Most majors departments require a student to maintain a 2.25 GPA in the major and a 2.0 cumulative average.

In my own point of view, it doesn’t matter if you are a high school student or a college one. You just have to do your best in everything that you do and you should be always aware of your surroundings so that you will not have a hard time in adjusting yourself. You should also have self-confidence to carry your self and the most important thing is that, you should have a trust to your self and believe in your own strength and capabilities.

  20. Trust him, he has a plan.

    OVERCOME and BE SAVED. :)

“Conflict is always necessary because it is the only way for improvement.”

Imagine a world without conflicts. Imagine a world without problems. How does it seem to be? Calm? Serene? Blissful? Absolutely! This is the best place to live in because there is no need to strive, to contend with others just to survive. Who does not want this kind of life? Obviously, NOBODY! But will those people who exist in such a world be mature enough, strong enough, shrewd enough or clever enough to face the world today? Do you think the experience they have in a perfect world will make them ready to face the world we live in, today? Conflicts, challenges, trials, problems and the likes can be viewed as catalyst for improvement. The knowledge we get in facing our problems helps us to become a better person. Our hardships will become our motivation to prove that our detractors wrong. We strive harder in our endeavors to be successful so that we will be able to show them that they are wrong and that we can do better. The conflicts and hardship we experience gives us the determination to be a better person and become stronger. This is What Karl Marx tries to relay to us. Without conflicts, challenges or problems, individual do not get motivated. They do not move. They do not find ways for improvement. They become complacent. They will not be able to discover and experience new things unless something or somebody will trigger them to move.

All human beings are born with an original sin, inherited this from Adam and Eve, this is the sin of eating the fruit from the forbidden tree. This original sin is absolved when we receive the sacrament of Baptism. The sin we commit through our own action is called the Actual Sin. It is any willful thought, desire, word, action, or omission forbidden by the law of God. In my own point of view, sin is any act against the will of God. Also, it is something that offends your moral or ethical principle. It may be something you do in doubt and in hesitation. You can also identify sin when it is against the natural law. Natural law is a point of view where you do not need to comprehend but rather you need to observe and use your common sense. We commit sin, when we entertain the temptation that is being presented to us by evils. Temptation itself is not a sin. It is just an invitation to commit sin. These are the ways of evil to captivate us from God. When we entertain temptation, it will be the start of a step by step action towards actual sin. It will be the start of the fall of man from the hands of God. Evils wanted to be more powerful than God. For them, the only way to achieve this is to have many followers. So, as humans who were created by God in His image and likeness, we should not let evils win within ourselves. We should not let them rule over the world. Doing something that is against the will of God is a way of disrespecting God. Sin makes us closer to hell and makes us away from heaven. Sin is a chain reaction.

As a whole, problems should be seen as an opportunity because this will help us to be the person we want to be and God wanted us to be. We should always put in mind the quotation “We are continually faced by great opportunities brilliantly disguised as insoluble problems.” Do not let your problems overcome you. Overcome your problems! We should always put God in the center of our lives. His Holy Spirit will guide us in following the footsteps of Jesus and He will also help us to refrain from the temptation that the evils are presenting us. Prayers and faith in God will save us from committing sin. Overcome your problems and be saved from sin with the help of the Holy Spirit. :)

“NATIONALISM: THE TRAIT WE SHOULD HAVE”

Sovereignty or National Identity is an essential quality that a place should possess for the place itself to be called a country. But many events in our history, mainly in the Philippines, show that sovereignty cannot be achieved without the aid of our heroes. Those heroes possess Nationalism.

Nationalism refers to the eagerness of not only a person but a group or even a whole nation for their independence. It is also referred as the sacrificing your own life for the sake of the nation’s self-reliance. It also concerns about the devotion for the place’s culture and tradition. Nationalism is often associated to the word “Patriotism”. But there is a difference between the two words. Patriotism is referred as the support for a nation’s goods and commodities, the loyalty to the society and the respect for the symbols of the community. We still should have the attitude that our heroes had possessed before.

Even though we have our independence on the present time, we should keep the soul of nationalism alive. Because it’s easier to handle the present happenings and to perceive the future if we know how did past citizens had overcome the obstacles of life. Nationalism had played, has been playing, and will always be playing a great role on our country.

  22. Losing Weight, by pills or by being practical?

To lose weight is a not that easy to do. You need to have sacrifices like giving up those carbohydrate and fatty foods. There are many ways to be fit and lose weight. There is a way in which you use real nutrition and a way in which preservatives and other chemicals are added to your diet to help you lose weight.

One way to lose weight is through taking in fat burning pills and another is through eating nutritious foods and having daily exercise. These both help people to have the body they want or dreamt of. It flashes out those stored fats in our bloodstream which make you that fat. It gives you a better way of living and helps you what you want to be.

On the other hand, taking in fat burning pills and eating nutritious foods and daily exercise have differences. Fat burning pills are expensive while eating nutritious foods are not. In spite of the good function of fat burning pills like burning fats in your body, they have side effects when overdosed or taken in improperly while nutritious foods have no bad effects to people. Burning pills contain preservatives which are not so advisable while nutritious foods are pure and fresh.

Being practical, it is better to have a little bit sacrifice like eating nutritious foods even if they do not taste good and do daily exercise even if it makes you tired than taking in pills which have so many bad effects to people. You can lose those pounds and live a healthier life by just being practical and have discipline in your diet. Treat your body as important as your life.

  23. What if our Bible was as important as our Cell Phones

Two words caught my eyes as I was scanning through the internet. Cell phone and Bible, two different things with its different uses and different importance. Great impact is what these two things give us. Are you wondering of how this things work in our lives, and how we work with it??

Look at one’s pocket and there you could see a phone, it is an electronic device used widely in terms of communication, that gives different features such as SMS, email, packet switching for access to the Internet, gaming, bluetooth, infrared, camera with video recorder and MMS for sending and receiving photos and video. Go through a house and there you could probably see a bible, the sacred book of Christians a collection of ancient writings including the books of both the Old Testament and the New Testament. This contains different stories about God and serves as a manual for us in living in this world. Two important things used differently. Which is could be more important than the other? What do I really need??

These two different things both useful to man’s life. But as what we could see now cell phones are given much importance than bible. Cell phone is something to be concerned of that we don’t even want scratches to mess it up, unlike bible which is just left anywhere and not receiving the kind of care it needs. Text messages are often read while bible messages are read infrequently. Cell phone messages are shared and forwarded to friends while giving of bible verses gives embarrassment for people. Cell phone message is sometimes late while bible message is always on time. Cell phones need to be loaded for you to have message, while bible is always loaded with God’s words. Cell phones and Bible has a lot of differences according to how people use it and shows importance to it.

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell-phones. These things have their own importance and their unique quality that we should not just focus on one thing. Bible is also an important thing. Cell phones show people’s lifestyle while a bible changes peoples lifestyle. Cellphones are important to us but Bible are much important if we would be using it. Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill and no dropped calls! Let us try to show importance to our bibles just as we are giving importance to our cell phones and let us see its manifestation in our lives.

  25. THE MARRIAGE OF MATH AND SCIENCE
    by: Beren L. Bello

The relationship of Math and Science has upgraded to the next level.Every single day, their romance keeps on giving us benefits and progress to our life. Truly, they are inseparable. Math and Science are very close to us, especially to students. In relationships, we can never see a couple without similarities and differences.
According to Mr. Webster, Mathematics is the study of numbers and the relations of quantities or forms. In short, math is the science of numbers.Math is very common to our life.Math tells us what time is it.Math tells us all the measurements.Math lets us play with shapes and figures.Math calculated all the bones and teeth you have. Math measured the tiniest living organism that ever existed. Without math , there will be no Algebra, Trigonometry, Statistics, Geometry, Calculus and Engineering. In my own assumptions, math is the light of the modern world.
On the other hand,Science, according again to Mr. Webster, is the study of everything. The study of everything including numbers.Science has existed before the pre-historic period. Science explains why we grow up and mature. Science helps us to invent and discover something unknown to the human race. Science has extende its reach to the far out corner of the universe.Science has launch men to the moon. Science explains why we had day and night. Science even explains why we blink. Without science there will be no Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science and General Science. Science is the wall of the modern world.
The marriage of math and science determines are future. Their marriage has a great impact to our daily lives so that we accept and approve all the laws and theorems they had given. Thier relationship will even bear offsprings that will give us even more progress and relief. It is time to congratulate the newly weds.

"Marriage resembles a pair of shears, so joined that they cannot be separated;often in opposite directions, yet always punishing any one who comes between them."

  26. “Will They Choose Me?”
    anne marla sm. villa
    iii - lavoisier

What is love for you? Pretty hard right? With all those spreading quotes defining love, you just can’t choose which the right one is. For love isn’t there to be defined, it is meant to be felt. Okay, let’s try best friend. How would you define your best friend? The best. Well, duh? But still the definition isn’t enough. No matter how many meanings the dictionary provides, we still couldn’t look for the right and proper one. Why? For we should define it from what our hearts say and what we really feel about it.

Given the situation, when you have to choose between your boy best friend and the boy you love, who would you choose? “My best friend, of course!” That is what others would say. But would that be the same decision they will make once it really happens? I think not. No one can really make the right decision once they are on the verge of letting go and keep holding on. For whatever the decision will be, we just don’t know if it’s right or wrong.

Going back to the situation about the boy best friend and the boy that you love. If I would be asked this question; I may need a month or a year just to think about it thoroughly. Let me see, if I will choose my best friend, am I sure that I’m his best friend also? Or will he be forever by my side? What if he finds some other best friend and leaves me hanging? If the boy I love is the one that I will choose, am I sure that he will love me the way that I love him? What if he leaves in case some other girl way better than me? A lot of thoughts will be circling in my mind once I’m asked this question. The reasons of some are that there is only one best friend in the world and a lot of other boys that you fall in love with. True. But there are also lots of other people that can be the best friend of your best friend. Others would say that you know your best friend very well and he knows you, too. And the boy that you love is just someone that you met and someone that you can easily replace. Good point. But the thing is, whatever the similarities and differences of the two is, you just can’t choose any of them.

So if ever someone asks you the answer for this situation. Think about it. And remember this question, “will they choose me?”

  27. The Laws of God

“Happy are the sorrowing, for they will be comforted.”
    - Matthew 5:4

Everybody wants all things around them to be perfect just like what they want it to be. We do not want to be harmed or injured. We are also afraid to commit mistakes. Most of all, we do not like to feel the pain or sorrow in our hearts. Instead, all of us want to spend our lives happily. Yet, because we, at times, are attracted to make wrong choices, we tend to make wrong decisions. This leads us to feel uncomfortable and find life unpleasant. To avoid unpleasantness in life, at home, in school, and in the community, we have rules and laws. And, two words can’t be separated when you talk about these laws, rules and regulations, especially, when it is related to God. These words are Ten Commandments and Beatitudes.

The Ten Commandments are like rules that God gave us to help us live good lives. And, these commandments are not to be seen as some obligations we have to fulfill. Rather, they are signposts in which we can pattern our life. The first three commandments teach us how to love and serve God. The remaining seven commandments teach us how to love and serve one another. The Ten Commandments guide us in living our lives as people of peace and justice. In keeping the Ten Commandments, we are able to bring peace and justice wherever we are.

On the other hand, Beatitudes are the teachings of Jesus on true and everlasting happiness. The word beatitude means “blessed” or “happy”. These are the traits that the disciples of Jesus strive to develop in themselves so that they will be genuinely happy like Jesus. These are also the traits of Jesus himself which made him lived a truly happy life in this world. Thus, if we live the beatitudes like Jesus, we will also be happy on earth and we will belong in the kingdom of heaven.

These two words really help us live a life of safety and order. These laws are guidelines for our daily life so that we may also grow into better persons. They help us to reach out to other people, especially to the less fortunate and bring God’s love to them. They help us treat everyone as our neighbors. They help us to make the right choices everyday. Lastly, they make us grow into true followers of Jesus. Respecting the laws and rules of everyday living is a sign that we are growing up in the right way. And, by keeping the laws of God habitually, we are able to grow as disciplined children of God. God wants to see us live each day guided by these laws so that we may avoid temptations, stay away from doing wrong and we may avoid making wrong choices and decisions.

“Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and also, love your neighbor as you love yourself."

  28. LIFE AND DEATH

Mohandas Gandhi said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever”. God gave us the gift of life to experience and appreciate the beauty and wonder of His creations. He gave us senses so that we could enjoy and be amazed at it. But life is short so we have to live life to the fullest. Live life like every minute is your last cause you might regret it if you die without even realizing how beautiful life is. But in every beginning is an ending. Death doesn’t mean it’s the end but another beginning.
Life is about seeking wisdom and knowledge, finding your purpose and enjoying living trying to realize one's potential and ideals. Life brings hope to man. Life helps man to explore unknown territories. It helps us to discover new things that make our lives more comfortable and enjoyable. Life brings us love. It inspires us and motivates us to do our best in everything we do.
Death is but an extension of life itself. Death is the state of a thermodynamic ecosystem in which it cannot get and organize autonomously the energy from the environment. Death always occurs as a deterministic event because all living beings will die. We cannot think that there is something eternal in the Universe. Eternal life is impossible because the trajectory of the entropy is settled on time.
Life and death can never be separated from each other. Life is the beginning and death is not the end of life but the extension of life. We are given life to enjoy God’s creations. Life is short so we have to maximize everything around us. We should not reject death because it is the extension of life. We should just be thankful for what we have and we should live life to the fullest.

  29. The Lip of Truth or a Lying Tongue

“The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”
    -Proverbs 12:19 (KJV)

Have you ever thought about the kinds of words coming out of your lip? Have you ever planned to watch every single word your tongue confesses? Well, watching your words is really hard. Most of the time, you do not notice what you are saying because of being selfish. Not knowing meaning of words coming out of your own lips is being selfish. Everyone wants himself or herself to be in a safe place but sometimes we set aside the feelings of others. We are only thinking of our own good. And that one is wrong.

Troubles will always be a part of our lives. Without it, life will be somewhat incomplete. Sometimes, we are getting in the worst part of it and we are just getting attracted to make wrong choices. These wrong choices will first come into our minds and later it will be coming out of our lips. It will be coming out of our lips as if no one knows the things behind it.

Having the lip of truth is having wisdom. Words of truth are consistent. It is pure, without wrinkles and blemishes. It always ends up in a happy ending. It may hurt your feelings but in just as single time.

A lying tongue is having a selfish thinking. You never think of its endpoint. What you think is that you yourself will be safe. You are full of fear and sorrow. It is because you do not want others to see the wrong things you have inside.

When we are in trouble, it is kindness to ourselves to make light of injuries and affronts, instead of making the worst of them. It is good for all to dread and detest the sin of lying, and to be governed by honesty. The tongue of the wise is health, making all whole. Those who consult the peace and happiness of others have joy in their own minds. Make conscience of truth, not only in words, but also in actions. Because words may fade away but your actions will always leave a mark of being true to your heart. The righteous is abundant though not in this world's goods, yet in the graces and comforts of the spirit, which are the true riches. Evil men vainly flatter themselves that their ways are not wrong. They never realized that they would suffer. There is not only life at the end, but also life in the way all-true comfort. The lip of truth shall be established forever. The truth really hurts but only in a single time. After you feel the bad feelings, you will feel the genuine joy. It is because you know you are doing things right. A lying tongue is but for a moment. Sin of lying will not help you and it will only harm you. You may think it is easier to tell a lie than to tell the truth just to escape from the trouble. But it is wrong and it will only hurt you in the end. A lying tongue is only for a moment and will never last long.

“The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” Do not think about the things that will hurt you. Always think about that you must be governed by honesty for it will be established forever.

  30. Comparison and Contrast on Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece.

The Gift of the Nile and the Glory that was Greece

Two well-known and affluent civilizations flourished during the primordial period of Earth. Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece. Both had astonishing contributions to the development of the Human Race. Both had amazing contributions for the progress of the society today. Without the two ancient civilizations, things would be not as advance and productive today.

The Gift of the Nile, this was what historians said about Ancient Egypt. It burgeoned at around 3300 BC along the Nile River. Because of the Nile River, Ancient Greece thrived during the primeval period. Its amazing ability to overflow at one point of the year made the dry and dull soil of its riverbanks be fertile and productive as ever. Ancient Egypt’s form of government is not directly seen today. A pharaoh ruled during their time and was believed to be like a demigod, a link between the world and the Gods above. They also contributed surprising and immense structures and architectural designs: the Pyramids. It took great patience and perseverance for the slaves to construct such buildings. Indeed it is a mystery on how they made colossal structures and still today, it stands and endures. Egyptians were also proficient in one thing: Mummification. It is the art of preserving the dead for the next life. Egyptians were very meticulous about this process; it took them a lot of time and effort to be successful in preserving the body. Another expertise of them is their form writing, the Hieroglyphics. It uses symbols or pictures to denote objects, concepts or sounds. It is carved on a wall and it depicts some happenings during their time of living. Again, it so wonderful that hey could perfectly carve objects on a wall and still people expert on interpreting and decoding them could decipher the message. Ancient Egyptians contributed a lot to our present day society. Examples are the obelisk, an architectural design used widely by Americans and other countries. Also they produced their own zodiac, methods in medical and dental procedures and their own religious practices. Certainly, the civilization that blossomed in Egypt had great part on the development of our society.

The Glory that was Greece, this was what historians said about Ancient Greece. This was because of their great achievements in many fields like philosophy, science, government, art and architecture. It prospered at around 3000 BC during the ancient times. While Ancient Egypt prospered along rivers, Ancient Egypt prospered along coastlines. It thrived by the sea, this made their civilization adept in trade with our other countries. One of the great contributions of Ancient Greece was the form of government, Democracy. It first started in Athens and this was a very sophisticated kind of government. It is applied to many nations like Philippines and the USA. It also gave us great designs when it comes to architecture, the three columns namely Doric, Ionic and Corinthian. It is used in some buildings all over the world. They also had great and fine literature like the Iliad and the Odyssey. It tells about the Trojan War and the adventures of Odysseus respectively. The Greeks also had great mathematicians and scientists who had great effect on us through their work and contributions. Geometry, Astronomy, Logic, Physics and Biology were some of the fields of science that those Greeks were dexterous at. We should also thank Greeks for their language because some of the modern English words that we use today originated from Greeks. Without a doubt that the Ancient Greeks also had great part on the development of our society.

These two ancient civilizations were highly developed and very elite during their times of flourishing. They had made contributions to us and without them; our way of living would never be the same. We should give are utmost gratitude to both of them because of their great help for our development. Undeniably that those civilizations were very helpful to us and the next generations that would benefit from their contributions.

    TRIALS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Most of the time we tend to encounter and conclude that a happening in our life is either an opportunity or a trial. Opportunity being the positively addressed happening was the being look forwarded to and trials avoided if possible.
Opportunities are favorable times or occasions, situations or conditions favorable for attainment of a goal and good positions, chances, or prospects, as for advancement or success. The very start of a new day in our life is already considered as an opportunity. Opportunity to make the most out of everything we got.

Most of the people would describe trials negatively. They are referred to pain, anguish and sorrowful events that occur in our life. A death of our loved one for example is described as a trial. Sometimes it is even used as a substitute to the word problem and we all know that trials are part of our life that we would encounter along the way.

The boundaries between this two opposing words is probably the idea of being negative and positive, but can’t we look at them both in a positive way? Trials are also opportunities. They opportunities to make ourselves strong, dependent, patient, understanding, wise, experienced and most of all it is the opportunity to experience God’s unending power and love to us. Realizing these things would make us appreciate every detail of the events of our lives. May it be an opportunity or a trial.

  32. The Deafening Sound of Silence and the Tranquil Reverberation of Noise
    by Danielle Marie A. Parreño
    III – Antoine Henri Becquerel
    Compare and Contrast Article

Thunders roar from a distant land, agitating those who are in peace. Meanwhile, the breeze sings a mute song in the midst of a war – stricken place. The two opposing force of the nature fights each other within each other, the silence and the noise. Both forces complies the will of Mother Nature herself to do what they must. But in the middle of everything, silence could be a plague of noise and the noise could be the outbreak of silence.

Some might find the silence as the beauty of the peaceful aura of their surroundings. For them, nothing would overcome the magnificent atmosphere that silence has given them. Yet others, perturbed by their anxious thoughts, might find silence quite deafening. In silence, everything is still. In stillness, some find it to be very irksome. It is possible that the noise of their deep thoughts is prevailing over the stillness. In silence, the noise of our thoughts could be slowly corrupting in what should be the calm state of our mind. We seem to cover our ears and scream helplessly over the non-existing noises. The thoughts of our mind seem to echo in on us making the noise in very serene surroundings. Yes, it is indeed possible for the noise to prevail on us even in our hushed surroundings, making silence inevitably deafening.

Noise has many definitions. Depending on anyone, it could be any sound which is annoying or unpleasant to their ears. But somehow, in ways we do not notice, noise could also be the outbreak of silence. We make noise for a lot of reason and one of those reasons is the silence. We break the silence by means of noise. Though others may say that noise is irritating, for others it is a sigh of relief. It could possibly be the most beautiful sound that they have ever heard, especially when their thoughts are filled with nothing but the deafening sound of silence. We could say that at last, silence has created noise for it to break free. No one could live in a world with no noise, a silent world. The silent mind is already maddening others, what more of a silent world? Indeed, silence could make tranquil reverberations too, those of which we call noise.

The silence and the noise are two contradictory forces clashing at each other. No matter how pleasing the serene sound of silence or the raucous sound of noise is, it all depends on how different people respond on it. Both could be a blessing or a curse. It all depends on how our minds will react unto it. As what I’ve said, silence could be a plague of noise and at the same time, noise could be the outbreak of silence. It is still part of Mother Nature, the silence and the noise.

  33. Anubis and Ra.

Both gods of Egypt and have respectable power as the myths tell. I have been drawn to these figures as one of the many moths allured by the flame of mystery that shrouds them. Even their shadows glow with their fantastical imagined glory. The many many attractions found in the desert jewel does not magnetize my interest much versus the two idols. Although I selectively touch matters concerning the field of religion, as I am a devoted Christian, Anubis and Ra personify thoughts of human entropy in the time of darkness and unknowing which salve my prudence regarding such matters and bettered my understanding of a rounded person, even in terms of Christianity.

Anubis—the god of mummification, associated with death and embalming. He guards over the dead so they may rest in peace and not disturb the living. He caters for the souls and bodies of the departed. The Egyptians believe that he can reign doom over any soul so he measured your heart as unworthy and he will decide of they are to go to the Realm of the Dead. It is why head embalmers wear a mask like the head of Anubis. He may give you a good afterlife or a terrible entrapment in the underworld. When a person shows kindness, greatness, excellence in his life, the Egyptian is showered in the afterlife as he was in his lifetime. All his treasures are buried with him so that he may take them in his afterlife and face Amun-Ra with a high head with these treasures. It is shown by the heart if he had done so. If the Egyptian was the opposite of opulence and did unjustly deeds on his fellows, the person may be given an improper burial with a curse amounting as much as his sin. He will be taken to the depths of the underworld and will work for the evil serpent of the underworld, Apophis.

Ra—the sun god of Heliopolis, the City of the Sun. He was said to reign over all the universe with the sky, the earth, and the underworld. He fathered the many gods after the Ogdoad cosmogony with his wife as Hathor who represents the Milky Way which was the body where the gods sail on to reach the earth. As the father of gods, he is all mighty and must be just and commanding with upholding the laws of life in the Egyptian way.

Anubis and Ra have their differences and their sides. That's what I like about the two idols from Egypt—they make the two sides of a coin. They are personages of what maybe your fate if this and if that. They can help you be a round character, to have a real you. Though they are only flat, they are what make you whole as a frame.

  34. To Internet or Not to Internet

In our generation, the use of the internet is constantly growing. We use it for communication, leisure, business, homework, research, studies, and even as a journal. Let’s face it; the internet is part of our daily lives. We students depend on the internet for our homework and for researching, but what about the traditional way of doing homework? Actually looking it up on books rather than just googling our homework? Should it be a forgotten pastime?

Doing homework through internet and manual searching both help us get our tasks done. They both provide us knowledge for school and the topic at hand. Both can get us information that we need.

Doing homework by using the internet is quick, easy, and painless. Almost everything you need for your schoolwork is on the internet, but using the internet for our homework increases dependability of the student on the internet. Using the internet for our homework could eventually cause the student to become lazy. Students would depend too much on just copy pasting, which leads to another con of internet, plagiarism. You can find ready made essays and homework all over the internet. Although, some teachers have found ways to detect plagiarized works, this problem is still rampant.

The traditional way of doing homework is still a somewhat effective way to do your homework. Though it may be tiresome it still helps students to understand their homework better. The student is forced to manually search the needed information and copy it themselves on paper. It may be too much work but at least students can understand their lessons better.

There might be many differences and similarities between the two, but they both help us to survive school alive and kicking. It’s just up to us how we should use these two methods for our schoolwork.

  39. Digimon vs. Pokemon

Nowadays, children and even adults are fond of playing computer games, reading manga, and watching anime. In these games, manga, and anime, Pokemon and Digimon are the most popular. These hobbies add color to their life, gives entertainment, and many more. Though these stuff are enjoyable and irresistible, these hobbies are much like any other form of entertainment which is frequently a cross disciplinary field.

Pokemon is a media franchise owned by the video game company Nintendo and created by Satoshi Tajiri around 1995. Originally released as a pair of interlinkable Game Boy role-playing video games, Pokémon has since become the second most successful and lucrative video game-based media franchise in the world, behind only Nintendo's own Mario series. Pokémon properties have since been merchandised into anime, manga, trading cards, toys, books, and other media. The name Pokémon is the Romanized contraction of the Japanese brand, "Pocket Monsters” as such contractions are very common in Japan. The term "Pokémon", in addition to referring to the Pokémon franchise itself, also collectively refers to the 493 fictional species that have made appearances in Pokémon media as of the recent release of the newest Pokémon role-playing games (RPGs) for the Nintendo DS, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Like the words deer and sheep, the singular and plural forms of the word "Pokémon" do not differ, nor does each individual species name; in short, it is grammatically correct to say both "one Pokémon" and "many Pokémon". While Digimons short for "Digital Monsters is a popular Japanese series of media and merchandise, just like Pokemon, which includes anime, manga, toys, video games, trading card games and other media. Digimon are monsters of various forms living in a "Digital World", a parallel universe that originated from Earth's various communication networks.

The concept of the Pokémon universe, in both the video games and the general fictional world of Pokémon, stems from the hobby of insect collecting, a popular pastime which Pokémon executive director Satoshi Tajiri-Oniwa had enjoyed as a child. Players of the games are designated as Pokémon Trainers, and the two general goals (in most Pokémon games) for such Trainers are: to complete the Pokédex by collecting all of the available Pokémon species found in the fictional region where that game takes place; and to train a team of powerful Pokémon from those they have caught to compete against teams owned by other Trainers, and eventually become the strongest Trainer, the Pokémon Master. These themes of collecting, training, and battling are present in almost every version of the Pokémon franchise, including the video games, the anime and manga series, and the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
In most incarnations of the fictional Pokémon universe, a Trainer that encounters a wild Pokémon is able to capture that Pokémon by throwing a specially designed, mass-producible tool called a Poké Ball at it. If the Pokémon is unable to escape the confines of the Poké Ball, that Pokémon is officially considered under the ownership of that Trainer. Afterward, it will obey whatever commands its new master issues to it from that point onward, unless the Trainer demonstrates enough of a lack of experience that the Pokémon would rather act on its own accord. Trainers can send out any of their Pokémon to wage non-lethal battles against other Pokémon; if the opposing Pokémon is wild, the Trainer can capture that Pokémon with a Poké Ball, increasing his or her collection of creatures. (Pokémon already owned by other Trainers cannot be captured, except under special circumstances in certain games.) If a Pokémon fully defeats an opponent in battle so that the opponent is knocked out, the winning Pokémon gains experience and may level up. When leveling up, the Pokémon's statistics ("stats") of battling aptitude increase, including Attack, Speed, and so on. From time to time the Pokémon may also learn new moves, which are techniques used in battle. In addition, many species of Pokémon possess the ability to undergo a form of metamorphosis and transform into a similar but stronger species of Pokémon, a process called evolution. On the other hand, Digimon started out as a digital pet called "Digital Monster," similar in style and concept to the Tamagotchi. It was planned by Wiz and released by Bandai on June 26, 1997. The toy began as the simple concept of a Tamagotchi for boys (as Bandai was also the creator of the Tamagotchi). The v-pet is similar to its predecessors, with the exceptions of being much harder and being able to connect to fight other Digimon v-pets. Every owner would start with a Baby Digimon, train it, evolve it, take care of it, and then have battles with other Digimon owners to see who was stronger. The Digimon pet had several evolution capabilities and abilities too, so many owners had many different Digimon. In December, the second generation of Digital Monster was released, followed by a third edition in 1998. Now the new Tamagotchi Digimon is Pendulum that has a total of 9 in the series. Bandai also has released a Non Related Digimon Tamagotchi.
With these two subjects, humankind has learned to enjoy life. Indeed, Pokemon and Digimon, served as the model of all media in making this world an exciting and challenging world.

  40. Vanity VS Narcissism
    Leo Amadeus Ruiz
    III-Niels Bohr
    Makati Science High School

Because I have not seen my work yet, I just made another one... Something with better subjects to argue on...

To appreciate one's self is never a bad deed. To believe in one's ability is never a sin. To think that one is of a high standard is more of an inspiration than a boast. Both vanity and narcissism believe in these. Because they are just so true.

Vanity is defined to be the excessive belief in one's own abilities or attractiveness to others. But in some religion, they defined it as believing in one's self too much that this person rejects God for his self image. Narcissism however, is described as the trait of excessive self-love, based on self-image or ego. The bad story in this side of the road is that Narcissus was a man of vanity and was cursed to fall in love in his own reflection in a pool of water.

We basically have a hint that both narcissism and vanity refer to a bad thing due to so much obsession to self. But a little bit of everything can be good. A little bit of vanity can boost your self-esteem in terms of something competitive and a little touch of narcissism can increase your self-esteem in something that needs decission, specially with regards to one's reputation.

We can now say that narcissism is more of a negative character because vanity is ust with yourself and narcissim is with comparison to others.

  41. Compare an Contrast
    Pen vs. Sword

If you were to chose, would it be a pen or a sword? Sure, a sword would be handy in a life or death situation. A pen would be useful too if you wanted to poke somebody’s eye out. But here’s the real deal. Let’s not take into perception the obvious meanings of the two distinctly different objects. These two symbolize and represent a deeper meaning especially to us Filipinos way back during the Spanish regime. We all know that Rizal used a pen and Bonifacio preferred to use a sword to fight for our country. Both used their weapons well and ended up as national heroes. Now we live in a different era from our heroes. We live in a modern world but yet, I still feel our freedom is still being oppressed. Though we are no longer held by the hands of foreign men, we are still experiencing the loss of our freedom. We are held captive by our own selves. We, the youth, feel the irony though we may not notice it. Everyday, there are discriminations between the rich and the poor, the white and the black, the thin and the stout, and lastly, the smart and the not so smart ones. We are holding ourselves back from showing our true colors, talents, and gifts due to these discriminations. It is time free ourselves and to choose which weapon would be best for us to use.
Pen. What does a pen symbolize? For me a pen is the weapon of those who have more to say. This is the weapon of those who have a lot of things in mind yet are afraid to let people know for they are afraid of the criticisms ahead. This is the weapon we, students, use. A pen could also symbolize a more subtle way of expressing our feelings. We may have opinions on something we want share and we can’t afford to voice it out loud. This process of regaining our freedom and enriching our talents maybe slow yet slowly but surely we can reach our dreams someday. A pen maybe regarded as a small object but by using it in a smart way, it can be a very strong weapon as Dr. Jose Rizal has showed us before.
Now how about a sword? A sword, known a sharp weapon during old times, sounds sort of frightening. For me, it represents a more aggressive way on wanting to achieve something. It is dangerous once it lands on the wrong hand. In today’s situation a sword may be our voices. If we don’t be careful, we might speak ill of others and it will be hard to repair the damage. A sword symbolizes a fast, aggressive and effective way of fighting for our dreams. Unlike a pen wherein the consequence is its slowness, the swords consequence is when it is used in a not so good way, it may hurt others along the way.
Pen or sword, it is our choice to make. For each decision there is a consequence to pay. We may commit mistakes but for every mistake we learn. As we learn, we grow and finally break out of our shells or cocoons and finally become free of our own protective shields. Year after year, more Filipinos become free and start to be noticed across the globe. Who knows, if you choose the right weapon, you might end up as one of those proud and amazing Filipinos? Child, it’s time to come out into the world. So take your pick. Would it be a pen? or a sword?
