  1. An Enigmatic Clarification

    For two years now, she’s been crushing on this boy. Today, he would finally find out about her big secret. She wondered… wondered what he would think, what he would do, and how he would react. He probably won’t like her back, but that won’t matter much to her. It was an infatuation, not a commitment of love. All she really cared about was to be free from the secret. Actually, if he told her bluntly that he didn’t like her, she would be glad. If he’d be frank, everything will be brutally clear but the big picture will be easier—less complicated. Perhaps euphoria would fill her if he felt the same, but a simple “no” would be the second best. She knows how to appreciate honesty: to hell with going around in circles for the sake of being polite. Beating around the bush has never birthed anything better than a mess. Also, the word “no” is like a green light for her to move on and find a new crush.

    So she sucked in all the air her lungs could possibly carry and strutted away. She was hopeful… hopeful she’ll get a clearer hold on things.

    He didn’t expect this. It came as such a surprise. He never thought that she, of all the girls, liked him. Instantly, a flashback played back in his mind. It was his own experience in confessing… It was painful enough for him to confess (it was hard to muster so much courage) and it was another to be rejected and worse; be avoided. He wouldn’t dare do it. How could he be so heartless? How could he hurt someone so innocent? The old feelings of rejection crept up his spine like a tarantula. She wasn’t his type but… the look on her face… it had too much, hope. She actually looked pretty like that with her eyes wide with anticipation, her lower lip acting as her own pacifier, and her cheeks blushing profusely. But he had a different girl in mind.
    He couldn’t forget the past. The way he silently vowed to himself. Heaven knows that he didn’t ever want to crush anyone the way he had been crushed. It was tragic when his beloved started to avoid him after the incident—he won’t be like her. If ever he was forced into a situation, he won’t lie, but right now he had to play the “friendly” card. No, he didn’t want to crush her, not anyone.
    “Thank you,” he said with a slight bob of his head. “I’m so touched,” he told her grinning like a fool.

    * * *

    For the next month, she didn’t know what to think. She never felt relief since that day. All she felt was confusion and anger towards the ambiguous state. Her excruciatingly vague state bit her cheeks numb of the tears passing by it some nights. She was tempted to direct all her negative emotions at him. She somehow felt he wasn’t interested but the back of her mind kept her in a breath of false hope. What was she supposed to do? Pretend like nothing happened? Pretend that she never told him? What’s up with, “I’m so touched”, right? Did she touch his ego and caused it to bloat? She was sidestepped and left in the dark to figure out the foreign signals on her own. She had to get a reaction from him—a reaction strong enough to end her woes.

    He really didn’t care. She was just, after all, just another girl going gaga for him. Nothing new. He was nice to her though. Polite conversations, and friendly smiles and they passed the corridors just like how they did a month ago, when he hadn’t known yet.

    A lot changed one day, when she had been fully determined to get a reaction. She told him a story about her and her former best friend who was in love with her. As she told the story, he thought she was in love with her best friend but turns out she wasn’t. He was deeply bothered. Did that mean that she still liked him a lot? Is she really serious about what she told him? Did he give her the wrong impression? Was she assuming that he liked her back? Thus, the boy started avoiding her, unsure of what to do.

    * * *

    The girl finally got over him. She finally got the reaction she deserved… avoidance! That word couldn’t possibly be any sweeter! Now, a month had passed and she was happy and contented where she was. Free of restraint and free of her monogamous tendencies.

    The boy realized, after missing out on her, the truth. He had once been blinded by another, but he was in love with her. But, it was all too late to change anything. Too pathetic to do anything… his chance had passed him by.

    The minute she was over him, he had only started to get into her. They were opposites… they could have fit together like a puzzle, but the timing was all wrong.

  2. MY LITTLE YELLOW IDIOT!

    As he waters the plant in his front yard, I watched him. He just waters those plants but stile there’s this something going on inside of me. Something that is really weird and completely hard to explain. Have you ever felt that whenever you see your crush you have this tickle in your body? That’s what I feel when I see him.

    He walks to his neighbor but easily refused him for his neighbor is not really what he thinks he is. He’s not a fun person. With that attitude of his neighbor, he went straight to his best friend’s house. But like what happen with his neighbor, he was not welcomed. He felt completely lonely that made me feel the pain of being ignored. Within that loneliness, he decided to visit the restaurant where he works. “CLOSED” is the welcome he received. The day wasn’t going well for him. Everywhere he looks, fun is not seen. The atmosphere was very melancholy. There was no fun like what he was used to.

    At the end of the show, he was sad and he failed to see an atom of happiness. It wasn’t like the ordinary episodes I have watched. And in every cartoon, the credits flashed on the screen ending his awful day. But no matter what the ending of today’s episode is, I know the others will turn out how they should be. So I guess I’ll be seeing you later at 4:30 in the afternoon. See you Spongebob Squarepants, my little yellow idiot!

  3. ORE WA, KAIZOKU NI NARU!!!
    A Character Sketch on Monkey D. Luffy
    Grace Ria L. Bernadas
    III-WCRoentgen

    “I’ll become the Pirate King!” sounds like too big a dream for a twelve year old boy, right? Even all the people around him did not take him seriously, and made him a laughing stock.
    I thought he would curse them, thought he would run, I thought he would cry, but to my surprise, he just pulled his straw hat down, enough to cover his eyes and smiled. At that time, I felt it, the promise contained in his words, the promising future hidden behind his smile.
    Four years have past and the young boy now turned into a young man, seventeen years of age and started out his lofty quest. Without his own boat or his own troop, he sailed the vast and untamed ocean.
    Starting from scratch, he found loyal and strong comrades, but getting them was no easy task. He fought people, whose strength were more monster-like than human, whose size were twice his. Even though he is clearly the underdog, not a trace of fear can be seen across his face; he stands strong and faces his enemy headstrong. He uses his ability—Gomu Gomu Noriyoku’, the power to have his body turn flexible as rubber to somehow cover the great difference in their prowess. Never giving up no matter how many times he falls, never accepting defeat, that is his way of life.
    “…I’ll never go down before I defeat you!” He once said when he was fighting Lucci, one of the toughest enemies he had fought. Just like what he promised, he never fell down. Even though he was suffering excruciating pain, his determination to save his captured comrade, who was once his great enemy, never strayed.
    Well, that’s just our future Pirate King, Monkey D. Luffy. Always trying his best on everything that he does, whether it be saving his friends from the clutches of evil, or defeating 30,000 marines in just five seconds, or go past the clouds in the sky in their little boat, he would never back down, he would finish the task no matter how hard it is and eventually emerge victorious.
    Monkey D. Luffy, though a fictuous anime character from One Piece, he truly deserves to be looked up to, not just by children, but also by everyone... by me.

  4. As I enter my Elective English class,a strange but familiar face stands out among my classmates. He won't lay his eyes off of me unless im seated.. He is the boy-next-door. The guy next to me. The one who holds my heart.

    I will glance at him from time to time. Give him the sweetest smile and i will say, " i love you so very too much" quietly. He will just nod at me and then I will turn my attention again to my teacher's discussion.

    I really did'nt know how this started. He is just the right guy for me. He understands my tantrums. He scolds me whenever I get myself into trouble. He listens to all the things that I wolud tell him like my life way back eleentary. Most probably, he is the one who can narrate my whole life to the world. He knows exactly how to make me laugh when i refuse to smile. He stays with me very late at night even five in the morning when I cant go sleep. His stares, it is like the phrase, "if looks could kill". He will "kindat" at me and I could do is turn my my back on him because I want to hide that big smile on my face. And yes, it is deadly. There is so many things about him that keeps me loving him and lastly .. There is something in my heart tells me I never would have known love if I had never met someone like him.

    Let's admit he is just a boy and Im still a girl but we can get old together. Because he completes my life.

    God Sent Me An Angel

    It’s not everyday you see an angel right? How was I supposed to know I was talking to one right now? Here’s a few stuff about him. He plays the guitar. He’s so super duper kind. He treats me really special. But here’s the catch. Is a human like me allowed to love such a wonderful servant of God?

    His name is Marc. Some of my friends know him because he went out with us on some gigs during the summer. I admit we were somehow an icon back then but now we’re just plain friends. I guess its better that way because someone still has a grip on my heart and I’m sure a lot knows that. Anyway, Marc is a gift from God. Honestly. I am not exaggerating. Every Saturday evening, he practices for church. He plays the guitar every Sunday during a mass celebration. I don’t know exactly know what his religion is but it’s definitely not Catholic but I know they’re Christians. He is definitely a talented guitarist. I could see his willingness to learn more techniques in the guitar. Also, he’s honest. He may be frank, but I swear, it’s in a good way. When I had problems with his brother, he was there to tell me what I did wrong and actually he made me feel better. Whenever I have problems, he always tells me to pray to God and that before he sleeps he will pray for me. Once, my mom was feeling so weak and I thought she was really going to leave me, but I asked him to pray for her. Then minutes passed, my mom felt way better. That’s when I realized how lucky I was to have him in my life.

    The Lord sent him on one my darkest periods. He was like a light coming from lamp hidden beneath heaps of obstructions. Marc gave me hope and reminded me that God still loves me. I love him as a brother and I’m sure he loves me as his sister too. I guess humans like me are allowed to love such people. This angel is one I will forever cherish in my life.
